5 Areas of Your Home Overlooked For Cleaning
I had one main personal goal this summer and that was to deep clean and purge a few rooms in my house. These last few years I’ve had some major life shifts. Losing my father, going through a divorce, all not easy things. With that said, I wanted my house to feel like a fresh start, a new beginning because that is in fact what I’m going through.
When you experience trauma it is really important that you’re intensional about your mental health. Things start to creep up on you if you’re not taking care of yourself. You can’t ignore trauma. Unfortunately, many of us try to and it comes out in very ugly ways.
I’m not going to say cleaning can get rid of trauma but the space you live in everyday plays a big part in how you respond to it. Purging and getting rid of the old was very helpful for me. Plus this home hasn’t had a deep clean since Covid so it was time.
Below are 5 areas of your home that may need your special touch, and who knows you might feel a little lighter after you clean these things.
1. Behind Appliances-Besides the fact that dirt and food build up behind your appliances, you also have to make sure that there aren’t any holes forming. Holes behind your appliances, especially those that lead to the outside is how insects and rodents get into your house.
2. Closets-Many times this is where thing go to die. And the longer it goes overlooked the more junk you will have piling up. The best method I used when cleaning my closet was emptying it out completely. I emptied a lot of it on my bed so I was forced to put it back. (It still took me 2 days)Then I purged as I put stuff back. I had 5 bags of clothes and shoes that I dropped off to good will.
3. Walls & Baseboards-You might as well do these two things at the same damn time. Definitely something that gets overlooked and if you look closely, you will be able to tell, your walls need it.
4. Light fixtures and ceiling fans-So many spider webs and insects are caught in these places. Open the light fixtures, dust the fans on the ceiling fans. This is why it’s called deep cleaning. We going in deep!
5. Window blinds & tracks-blinds and shades gather dust very easily and it’s noticeable. The tracks often get overlooked but those should also be dusted as well. Imagine opening your windows for fresh air but you’re only blowing around dust. Not a good look.
Don’t overwhelm yourself and think you’re going to get to everything in one day, unless you hire a professional. But make sure you get started and give your home a new energy.
Getting rid of stuff, and seeing freshly clean spaces was a big boost for me. Let me know how you felt after your deep clean and purge!
