Time management has always been a challenge for me, even before I had my child. But add her to the mix and I’m constantly feeling like I’m running late. My cousins even voted me the “Always Late Cousin” and I got a t-shirt to prove it!
I’m finding the more I add to my plate, the easier my life is if I stay organized. As a female and a mom, I do sometimes feel like I have superpowers. I seriously look back like how did I even do that? But somehow it ALWAYS gets done, even if it’s a little late. I know a little bit of that is my “get ish done by any means” attitude but the majority is the G-O-D!
Anyway, I’m really working on doing better. I want to be the example to my daughter that my mom was to me. Although all of her organization and planning skills didn’t quite rub off on me, I’m hoping my daughter will be better than me.
In attempt to do better here’s 4 things that I’ve been doing to stay on task this year:
- Start the night before-planning out your outfits, making lunch. Whatever you can do to take time off from the morning. So many unexpected things happen when you have a toddler and you’re trying to get out the door. So the most that you can do the night before, make sure you do it.
- Keeping a planner-Call me old school but I like a planner I can write in. Just recently I made my own planner because there were certain things I needed it to include. You can take a look at my planner HERE
- Priority checklist-Have you ever read the book Eat That Frog? The book gives people like me that procrastinate, tips on conquering important task. In the book the author mentions applying the 80/20 method when working on task. Sometimes we feel like we had a productive day but really we just completed things that don’t have anything to do with what our priorities are.
- Accountability Partner-This is EVERYTHING. But choose wisely. You need someone that has similar goals and drive. Someone that will remind you of your goals and someone that you don’t mind hearing the truth from. You also have to be willing to keep that person accountable as well. It’s a team effort and together you will both WIN!
I know I have some work to do and if you have any other suggestions for me or other people out there that are trying to work smarter not harder, leave a comment below!
